Color Change

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

OK, it’s up again, with darker, more maroon colors and a black background for the text. Actually it looks pretty d*mn slick now 🙂

Draft of website is up

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

OK guys, this is a basic draft of the website, round 1. The color scheme works well, it’s light and clean and cool and gets the job done.

To access it, go to Keep checking back here for incremental data as well.

Work schedule: I’ll be able to work a limited amount this weekend but I’m off Sunday and Monday. My thoughts were you guys could chew on it over the holiday and then we’d get hammering away on finalizing it tuesday through thursday, with migration to final location on friday. Then you’d be up before the new year.

Thanks, Matt

Narrowing It Down

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

OK, here are eight variations based on Nate’s feedback yesterday… we have some straight bars, diagonals, and off the side. Also, there’s a variation on the “ESPN” text in two options.

Variations on a Theme

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

OK, here’s what we talked about, plus a creative long-shot. I like the last one best, just because it’s very cool and non-traditional. Second up is the fourth (which is an embossed version of the third) that includes a VERY cool integration with the YRCI logo.

Part 2

These are are a little more edgy. I like the final one a LOT, may be the ‘bridge’ to YRCI we have been looking for.

Conversation 12.19.06

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Nate, Dan, & Co:

Thanks for the excellent conversation a few minutes ago. I’m glad we’re on the same page and moving in a more productive direction. I anticipate that this next round, to be posted NLT mid wednesday morning, will be a significant improvement on where we’ve been.

The primary thing we discussed is what feelings we’d like this logo – and the resulting brand –  to evoke. The terms that came out of the discussion were attitude… action… motion… competition… speed… and committment (and, ‘working your *ss off’).

This next round will also include a lot of color, to give you guys that next level of finish.

I’m hoping this afternoon that you can put your heads together and give me some examples of brands that evoke the same feelings that you’re looking for, to give me a little more creative flex.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to an excellent logo. Matt

A Few Logoforms, and an Idea

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

OK, so I’ve been banging away at this all weekend. Basically I have two groups we can focus on.

First, I’ve tried to find ways to simplify the hexes a bit, as per Dan. We can structure the text beneath and etc. in umpteen ways but the logoform ends up looking like this, still clean hexes but less of them, less biochemical, the star is a little more obvious:

But then I had a thought, slightly different direction but I think MUCH better, why not strike out the edges of the hexes entirely? This may not be the final landing place but I think it’s a lot cooler, plus would be easier to embroider etc:

In other words, we retain the hexes but they become a ‘negative element,’ almost part of the white space… they define the cutout of the star.

With the exception of one conference call it’s you guys all day. I want to get a logo out today that you’re ready to go with, and also get started on the web site… do you have text for the site for me to start playing with? Thanks, Matt
